Yesterdays local terminated at Rondout for some reason and todays is finishing their work and are running late to boot. Having given up their second unit at Leighton for the WC local, they continue on into Waukegan long hood forward to work the transload facility. After picking up two covered hoppers from the transload track, the local departs, passing by the St. Marys cement silos. Once in a great while there will be a single car setout for St. Marys. The local is leaving town on the main that will be relocated soon to the wide swath I'm standing on. The City cleared the land last year in a land swap deal to move the tracks over to the left, away from the Lake which is just behind the trees. Skimming the treetops for a view of what is essentially the end of the line for the EJ&E at the West end. The now empty 4 track yard is used by the local to run around their cars. In the foreground are two tracks used for a transload operation. An overview of the contractors handywork cleaning up the roundhouse leads. The only track left other than the stub 703 is sitting on is the main, to the left. A few weeks after this was taken, the engine was gone too, as they moved the job to start at Spaulding.

A "Battle Creek Blue" GTW unit spends it first night in Waukegan on the EJ&E engine track. The Waukegan Local crew exchanged EJ&E 703 for this unit earlier in the day, and barely made it back on their hours.
